4 causes of distracted driving accidents

On Behalf of | Jan 30, 2023 | Car Accidents

One of the biggest problems many drivers face is distracted driving. There are so many distractions today that they are nearly inevitable and all too often they cause accidents. An accident from a distracted driver can be catastrophic.

Distracting driving is so dangerous because drivers divert their attention from the road. However, even just a second without looking at the road could lead to an accident. But, what leads to distractions? Here are some of the worst causes:

1. Texting and driving

Nearly everyone knows that phones are one of the leading causes of distracted driving. It’s likely that most drivers have their phones with them in their cars. If these drivers heard their phone ring, it’s very likely they’d check it while still in motion, which can lead to an accident.

2. Fast food

When was the last time you got fast food? Did you eat while you drove? You likely aren’t the only one. Eating while driving can be just as much of a distraction as a phone.

3. Radio and AC

In order to change the radio or AC, most drivers have to take one hand off the wheel and some have to look where the controls are. This not only causes drivers to look away from the road but also reduces their control if there’s an oncoming obstacle.

4. Passengers

Most people don’t realize just how much attention is being diverted to paying attention to their passengers. Focusing on a conversation can take a driver’s attention away from the road.

If you were recently in a car accident then you should understand your legal rights when seeking restitution for your injuries.
